Pregnancy is a wonderful time in a women’s life. It really can be a a happy and healthy experience!

Most pregnant women generally agree on one thing – that back pain is definitely a health concern at some point during their pregnancy. It usually begins around the 5th to 7th month of pregnancy, but may begin earlier, particularly if a woman was prone to back pain before pregnancy.

Back pain may cause a pregnant woman to experience lost or interrupted sleep, significant time off from work, an inability to engage in normal activities or even the need for complete bed rest.

Here’s what you can do to alleviate it:

  • Exercise to strengthen neck, back and abdomen muscles through yoga or Pilates.
  • Rest as often as possible and use a pregnancy pillow.
  • Watch your weight gain – 25-35 pounds (10-15 kg) is generally considered normal.
  • Eat healthy, lots of fruits, veggies,
  • Drink about a gallon of water every day to stay hydrated.
  • Stretch, walk (trust me it eases labor a lot and helps your body snap back post pregnancy).
  • Don’t overindulge because your pregnant, yes you’re eating for two, but forget the misconception that you need to pig out.
  • Not too much sodium as it causes high blood pressure that could lead to pre eclampsia which can cause seizures during labor.
  • Not too much sugar.
  • If you can cut out the caffeine if you drink coffee, but if you must 12 oz a day ONLY!!!
  • No soda, fruit juice.
  • Get healthy loving support,
  • Mental health is just as important as physical.
  • Rest, and be happy because you’re having a baby!!!
